Pre-term Labor With Twins

March 23, 2009 – 6:07 am

Well, the wifey was admitted to the hospital yesterday for preterm labor. We’re having twins and she’s past the 32 week mark, and we’re grateful to God that the kiddos will be o.k. even if they are delivered this early. We’re also still praying that the contractions will be stopped though and that we can squeeze out a few more weeks on bed rest.

It’s times like these that insurance really makes a big difference. I’m stressed enough already (I tend to be a worrier), and the last thing I would want to do is worry myself further about bills for a few weeks of bed rest in the hospital. I am grateful to God for so many things, including my employment and the medical insurance that we have as well.

Every time I see my check and know how healthy my family is I am both grateful and a bit skeptical that paying out so much in premiums is worth it. That’s the thing about insurance though. It seems like a waste of money most of the time, and preferably all the time! For the most part insurance tends to pay off big only in extreme circumstances. The fact is though it it saves you from a catastrophic event even once, it’s well worth a lifetime of premiums. The key is to ensure that you’re getting the coverage you think you need (i.e. dental insurance may not be worth it, but an umbrella policy probably is).

On a somewhat-related note I have no idea what friends and family used to do before hospital’s got Wi-Fi. My wife is sleeping a lot (thank goodness, because she doesn’t feel well), and I would be bored out of my mind without internet access! Maybe now I can catch up on my emails. :-)

  2. I’m saying many prayers for your wife and babies… every day she can keep those little guys in is a day they’ll grow bigger and stronger.

I had premature labor at 29 weeks (was in the hospital for two days) and sent home to be on bedrest. It was REALLY hard to rest… but I knew that it was my job to keep those babies in as long as possible. I made it to 36 weeks… and had two healthy boys – one was 6 lb, 12 oz, the other 7 lbs, 15 oz!

Best wishes! And hang in there! You’re entering the home stretch now!

  5. I hope all turns out well! Thank you for the reminder that insurance helps to buy piece of mind. Next time I send out a payment I will keep that in mind.

Again – I hope all goes well and that everyone comes out healthy!
