We Are Baby-Ready!
March 2, 2009 – 5:55 amIt’s been an expensive few months, but we are now baby-ready (I hope!). Thank goodness it takes 9 months for the kiddos to grow before they get here, because otherwise we’d be in a financial mess! 
I am happy to say that through some judicious planning and shopping my wife and I now have pretty much everything we need for when our twin girls arrive. Over the past few months we’ve purchased:
- a single crib ($149)
- cloth diapers ($760, which will last us until our kids no longer require diapers. I personally think this cost is quite reasonable, although paying it all at once was painful. We also went with a high-end choice, and we had to buy for 2 kiddos at the same time.)
- crib bedding (not sure, but <$50)
- a double stroller frame that fits our car seats (craigslist, $20)
- a low dresser we will use as a changing table (craigslist, $100 I think)
- a few other various items (changing pad, etc)
I know what you’re thinking. “You forgot x, y, and z…”.
You’re right. The list above is what we purchased ourselves. We are, however, grateful to God and our friends and family who gave us the following items:
- 2 new car seats
- a ton of clothes, blankets, etc.
- a bathtub
- 2 pack-n-plays
- various toys
- 2 swings
- 2 bouncy chairs
- a high end double-stroller (for when the kiddos can sit up themselves)
- a ton of hangers
- a baby monitor
- a bunch of money from her baby shower (from her coworkers, the ones that knew she was quitting to stay home with the kids)
I’m sure there are several other things we received that I’ve missed, but overall I’m happy to report that we were as diligent as we could be in purchasing used items and getting what we need rather than what everyone (especially baby’s r us) says we should get.
