Persistance Wins The Race

If you want to achieve a goal or gain something of value you need to be persistent. Life has a way of putting up barriers and road blocks, and these setbacks are simply hurdles that must be overcome in order to win. Although many of us face difficulties as we work to improve our financial lives sometimes we feel that life is “unfair” or “out to get us”. When we view challenges that our friends and family face, however, we are more able to judge those difficulties objectively and give advice that is helpful.
The next time you face a challenge think about what advice you would tell a friend in the same situation. Is the situation really impossible?
This reminds me of a funny story about a guy I knew in school. This guy decided that to save money during graduate school he was going to pack his lunch every day. The first day of school, as he rode the bus, he accidentally left his lunch box on the bus. Oops.
Well, that was it for him. For the next two years he bought meals out rather than packing his lunch, probably adding thousands of dollars to his student loan debt. And this was someone who was getting an MBA in finance!
Although it’s true that some people are more persistent than others, discipline and persistence can be improved and learned. It’s a matter of practice. The more you practice these skills, the more skillful you become.

That is a funny story. It’s amazing how much money you can spend on lunches/drinks etc. without even realizing it. Apparently you can amass a $million pound investment fund by the time you retire if you just stop buying all this stuff and invest the money instead!

My youngest son is VERY PERSISTENT in his career and financial goals.
He is a junior at the University of Northern Iowa and knows what he wants out of life …
He knows that his goals are achievable if he makes good financial choices NOW.
He is VERY FRUGAL … and takes a lot of grief from his buddies.
His money jar is legendary in his circle of friends
I LOVE IT …
Persistence is the key!!!

Good thoughts. Persistence is definitely easy enough when things seem to fall into place; your true colors really show when obstacles loom and you must summon the courage to overcome.
As Randy Pausch said, “Brick walls are there for a reason. They let us prove how badly we want things”.
