My company just finished a United Way campaign, and I had been asked to help as well. I had a legitimate excuse of being buried over my head in a project, but I as well only give through my church at this time. Obviously tithe is required in scripture, but even over that my church has a "Mercy Fund" that I give any extra money to. It's a difficult spot to be in for sure, and I'm sure you'll make the right decision. It could be awkward, but at the same time like you said it could be a great way to share your faith. Though I don't know that I'd do it just for that reason :-). I'll be praying that God will give you wisdom to make the right decision, as I'm sure He will. In their roster of supported charities are a number that I find objectionable on moral or other grounds. Yes I know that you designate contributions away from those objectionable charities. On the other hand, the United Way should do a better job of dis-associating itself with non-profits that are guaranteed to create controversy. Planned Parenthood and ACLU are two that come to mind.
