Save Money Using A Foamer
May 24, 2008 – 6:09 amI’m sure you’ve seen foaming soap dispensers around by now. There are commercial versions that are used in restaurants and individual bottle dispensers for home use. What I’m beginning to realize, however, is that you can save quite a bit of money by refilling these dispensers!
You can purchase these dispensers from a variety of sources. The link above was the first one I found on the web with a picture, but the easiest way to purchase one of these dispensers is to just get it at your local supermarket. Nothing fancy required. My wife and I bought a two-pack of dispensers from Pampered Chef a while back for a gift, and then decided to get two for ourselves as well. They didn’t hold up very well though (clogging after a while), and therefore I would recommend just getting one from the store and refilling it.
I do most of the cooking and dishwashing in our family (2 adults, zero kids so far), and I wash most of our dishes by hand. We have a foam soap dispenser in all of our bathrooms and at our kitchen sink. A squirt or two per dish and I’ve got all the soap I need to clean up after dinner. The thing I find interesting is that to refill the container it takes only about a teaspoon of liquid soap to fill up an eight ounce foamer. I used to use a teaspoon or more of liquid soap straight from the bottle just to wash my hands (4 times a day or more). I would estimate that over the past year I’ve only used about 12oz of liquid detergent for our entire household, including washing most of our dishes by hand.
I would bet, however, that most people buy foamers at the supermarket and then just throw them away when they are empty. What a waste! Not only are you losing money, but you’re also filling up the local landfill unnecessarily.
Give a foamer a try, and I think you’ll see it’s a great way to reduce your liquid soap bills.
