Financial Abbreviations Used At HarvestingDollars
April 25, 2008 – 7:40 amIt doesn’t take me much to get all raged up on a topic of minimal importance, so I’d like to take this opportunity to mention one of my many quirks:
I use “M” to represent thousands of dollars in my posts, as any “finance professional” would (I use this term very, very loosely of course). For example, $15,000 is NOT $15k, it’s $15M. Similarly 2.2 million dollars is $2.2MM. It kind of makes sense if you think about it. 2.2MM is 2.2 thousand thousand.
I’m not sure where the whole “k” thing came from, expect that maybe people use it like they do kilometers (one thousand meters). A 5K is a good running working, but 5M is a great holiday bonus!!! Either way I will be using “M” throughout this blog to represent thousands, and if you catch me using “k” please post a complaint!
